For more than five decades, STELLA has been producing wool wax, better known as “Lanolin”. This wax, of animal origin and naturally present on the skin and wool of sheep, is a by-product of the wool industry, obtained without killing or injuring the sheep. This ingredient, known since antiquity for promoting skin health and protection, is refined at STELLA to pharmaceutical grade, with very high guarantees of quality, traceability, and responsibility.
In beauty creams and milks, toilet soaps, lipsticks, face powders, permanent wave lotions, hair products, shaving creams, nail polishes, and removers. Lanolin is a premium emollient for the skin, closely resembling natural skin fats.
In cold creams, emulsions, ointments, surgical plasters, and veterinary creams. Lanolin is an effective absorption base for medications and maintains high bacteriological quality.
Unique niche expertise in the production and purification of lanolin.
Guaranteed quality, safety, and international compliance.
Transparency and control at every stage of the process.
Responsible, sustainable, and environmentally friendly production.
Suintines are solid at room temperature. The first step of our process therefore consists of melting them, so they can be filtered and pumped into our installation.
The melted suintine is then treated to remove residual impurities: water, fine solid particles, and undesirable compounds such as free fatty acids, which are often responsible for odours and instability.
This purification, also referred to as refining, takes place in many stages, which can be summarised as follows:
Intermediate quality controls: Water content, colour, drop point, pH...
This yields a semi-finished, dehydrated Wool Wax (or Lanolin) free of coarse impurities, but still unsuitable for use in pharmaceutical or cosmetic applications.
The semi-finished lanolin resulting from refining is purified by molecular distillation. This vacuum process preserves the lanolin while making it possible to eliminate odours and other residual contamination.
This step guarantees a very high-purity lanolin, compliant with the most stringent standards (European Pharmacopoeia).
The final purified lanolin is automatically packaged into drums or other suitable containers under rigorously controlled conditions.
Each batch is identified to ensure quality, safety, and traceability through to the end customer.
From melting through to drum filling, the entire process is automated. The lanolin is never in contact with the environment, and no contamination is possible.
